Catching Up

We’ve had a pretty slow day here at The Mox, thanks to an impending ice storm. I guess people just don’t want to park their cars outside and come back two hours later to a layer of frost. Geesh. Luckily, it probably won’t hit until 11pm tonight, which means we’ll be well on our way home.

That’s right: home! As in, our new house! And while I will miss (immensely) the conveniences of living above our business (quick naps, bathroom breaks, snack breaks, taking Bogey out, not having to drive home…), the past few days have been pretty exciting as a homeowner!

For example: I got to test out the “new” kitchen. Originally, in my renovating plan, I was going to save the kitchen for last, because it’s the most expensive. But I think that might change soon. It’s a galley kitchen, which I love, but the layout is so poor. The stove sits right against the wall, so if I have multiple pots going on the range, it makes it difficult to maneuver. The oven is so tiny, it can barely fit two cookie sheets inside. And there’s no exhaust fan above the stove, so our whole house kind of smells like burnt chicken now.

Also, because the electricity isn’t grounded, I found that you can’t wash both the dishes AND clothes, otherwise the circuits keep tripping.

Dan looks like a giant in our attic bedroom, which I think is funny, and Bogey loves his backyard. Our lovely staff gave us a hefty gift certificate to Lowe’s, so I can’t wait to buy a few more gallons of paint (up next - our bedroom in a deep chocolate brown)! The shower has the best shower-head ever, and the guest room is so pretty, I just want to sit in it for hours. And today we had our wee wood stove freshened up, so it’s ready to go for these blustery nights!

I think being a home owner is going to be just fine.

(and here’s a picture of my new holiday acquisition - it’s a silvery glittery bird’s nest with 1950’s glass ornaments. They’re teeny tiny to go in my teeny tiny home)
