Movies 2008
The goal is 75 movies watched in 2008. Hopefully 30 will be watched during their run at The Moxie.
- My Kid Could Paint That (*M* Jan. 3) - Fascinating!
- Atonement (Jan. 4) - Hmmm. Pretty to watch, but overall rather dull.
- Juno (Jan 6) - Cute, and made me cry, but the wit was too much for me to handle.
- 2 Days in Paris (Jan 6) - LOVED IT! I laughed and cringed and craved Paris.
- Once (Jan. 18) - Cute, but pretty much just a long music video.
- Cloverfield (Jan. 19) - Fun monster movie! Not as good as The Host, though.
- Jesus Camp (Jan. 19) - What a creepy documentary!
- 28 Weeks Later (Jan. 30) - Yuck yuck yuck yuck. The first was much better.
- ***The Orphanage (*M* Feb. 3) - Great ghost story! I jumped and laughed many times.
- There Will Be Blood (Feb. 4) - A lengthy film with interesting elements. Not as great as Jesse James.
- ***The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (Feb. 7 *M*) - A perfect adaptation.
- 2008 Oscar Animated Shorts (Feb. 10 *M*) - My vote is for I MET THE WALRUS.
- Michael Clayton (Feb. 18) - Really? Best Film nomination? Hmmm.
- 30 Days of Night (Feb. 22) - Hmmm. Just as bad as 28 Weeks Later.
- Gone Baby Gone (Feb. 25) - So frustrating! but a good film. Go Casey!
- ***Persepolis (Feb. 25 *M*) - Loved it! It packed punches that the book didn’t quite deliver. Rare!
- Bigger Stronger Faster (Feb. 29) - Eye-opening doc about steroid use in America.
- Forbidden Lies (Feb. 29) - Best doc of the festival; about a con artist.
- Carny (Feb. 29) - Ok look at life on the midway.
- My Mother’s Garden (March 1) - Exhausting portrait of a women with a hoarding complex.
- Audience of One (March 1) - Religious fanatic thinks God wants him to make an epic film.
- Gonzo (March 1) - Alex Gibney’s latest, about Hunter S Thompson.
- An Alternative to Slitting Your Wrists (March 1) - Self-absorbed doc.
- Stranded (March 2) - Lovely story about tragic events.
- Please Vote For Me (March 2) - Fun look at kids, democracy, & China.
- ***Man on Wire (March 2) - Funny account of a high-wire artist.
- The Mist (March 11) - Pretty silly.
- Intermission (March 16) - Just ok. Needed way more Cillian.
- All the Real Girls (March 27) - I love Paul Schneider.
- Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (March 31) - Cute film to watch with Mom.
- Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story (April 20) - Second time watching.
- Snow Angels (April 21 *M*): So bleak. I love Sam Rockwell.
- Forgetting Sarah Marshall (May 7) - Bleh.
- Priceless (May 24) - Cute, good fit for The Moxie.
- The Animation Show IV (June 5 *M*) - Love it!
- Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (June 9) - Entertaining.
- Iron Man (June 15) - Entertaining.
- The Outdoorsmen: Blood Sweat and Beers (July 1) - Silly doc
- Be Kind Rewind (July 13) - Cute.
- The Dark Knight (July 21) - Good, but overhyped?
- Pineapple Express (Aug. 7) - I love David Gordon Green!
- Encounters at the End of the World (Aug. 12) - Werner Herzog is crazy!
- Aliens (Aug. 14) - rewatched. Not as awesome as it was 15 yrs ago.
- ***Tropic Thunder (Aug. 19) - Awesome.
- Frankenstein (Oct. 19) - It was on tv.
- Burn After Reading (Nov. 5) - Silly and fun.
- Chocolat (Dec. 7) - Love it! Second time watching.
- To and From (Dec. 25) - Cute short local film.
